In the UK there is around 11 million people living with a disability. Whilst it is more likely that disabilities will affect adults over state pension age, who, account for 45% of disabled people in the UK, there are still younger generations who are affected, with 16% being working adults and 6% being children. Disability increases with age with nearly 80% of older adults aged 85 or more being disabled in someway. Not all disabilities are visible and not all disabilities require the use of a wheelchair, although there is still 8% of people in the UK that rely on wheelchairs. With a population of 67.33 Million that means there are estimated 5.36 million wheelchair users in the UK. There are around 350,000 people who rely on mobility scooters with 47% being over 65. Many elderly people In the UK rely on mobility scooters to assist them getting around.
